Reading through an awful thread (forums suck, people suck ) and the recurring theme seems to be that Carvana is buying vehicles for essentially private party prices right now, higher than similar services. Perhaps they’re low o n inventory.

Do you think they’ll be interested in my 2003 Odyssey with 223k miles?

Going to sell your Jeep?
![]() 08/03/2020 at 14:04 |

Sold!
![]() 08/03/2020 at 14:04 |

Nah. I’m sure it wouldn’t have much value at this point anyway.
Except of course the inherent value of no longer throwing my money at it.

Wow, that’s....sad?

they and vroom are pretty low on inventory for months

Actually, I’m not interested in letting it go. I still love it.

You’d have to change your username to Just Jeepless too.

everyone needs used inventory, my dealers are bare. With Hertz dumping a bunch of inventory it could get dicey for those in the industry for a while.

Yeah, every time I contemplating picking up a different make I wonder what nickname I’d have to adopt and decide it ain’t worth the trouble.

‘05. It’s a desirable model but needs at least 5k worth of work right now.

All that clicking? Who has the time?

That’s a steal! Almost like when I was offered 64$ for a car for scrap from a place in town, and when I laughed at the offer guy on the phone chuckled and said no, that’s what we would charge to take it away! (because of the towing?)
The place an hour drive away took it for 230$, the guy who helped me on the phone made me an offer and then put me on hold to secure a higher offer for me without me asking! Now that’s service
![]() 08/03/2020 at 14:15 |

Yeah but imagine what you could do with 136$

This was the impetus for me to get a new GTI. They’re offering $2500 above KBB trade-in on my old one which is basically private party pricing.
![]() 08/03/2020 at 14:28 |

Heh. Clearly not a service designed for older enthusiast vehicles.
![]() 08/03/2020 at 14:30 |

The kicker was the $1,317 or whatever it was worth, with a “local market adjustment” of -$1,217 because Minnesota and rust. Luckily my cars aren’t rusty yet! Just moved here a year ago

If I can avoid giving out info upon which to be spammed, I wonder what they’d offer me for my 1984 Toyota Van. Probably about tree-fiddy based on the MR2 offer

I think everything Vroom has is a lemon law buyback car
![]() 08/03/2020 at 14:35 |

I should try out both Carvana and Vroom and see what they offer.
I am expecting top Dollar prices. I know what I have!

ooof too expensive to short

When I was looking for my Camaro, several Vroom sold ones popped up, all with Lemon Law on the Carfax. Now that could just be a small sample size, but I’d definitely be wary of them.

My friend's Volvo with a custom piston (singular, basically bad rebuilt job) was quoted at -$75 by carvana. Ooof.

I found Shift (a CA Carvana alternative) offered well over Carmax and dealerships. Sold our Mazda3 to Shift and the entire process took less than an hour!

Its allegedly worth $508, minus a $406 local ma rket adjustment.

3.8 V6, right? For the amount you need to put into to make it right, you could:
- buy a clean titled YJ
- instead of fixing what’s broken, swap it with something more durable/easily repairable/cheaper, even if the donor parts are refurbished/used.
- learn how to fix these things yourself
Please excuse me. I’m not trying to be a know-it-all, let alone know wtf I’m talking about. I just hate to see anyone throw money at a sinking ship. I’ve been down that path before. Had a 96 Volvo 850 Turbo wagon. Paid $1200 for it. Wasted over $6k paying a mechanic to fix/replace multiple items including turbo and exhaust, in 2-3 years of ownership — all to have it die on me after I backed out of the driveway, put it in drive, and it stopped in less than 20 feet!
Corroded wire harness was the culprit. To think that previously owned a 93 Grand Cherokee Laredo that I had only paid $125 0 for, had the heater core replaced after freezing on a sub-zero NYE night (alcohol intoxication saved us all on a short journey), and should have kept it but didn’t want to pay for a refurbished front axle to cure it’s front diff crunch. Sold it for $1200 — almost for what I paid for it and what it would have cost me for the time to replace the front axle!
The lesson learned: don't let your heart overrule your head

They offered the pay off amount for my Prius. Can’t complain. Might actually make money if I have another key and find some “premium” wheels. But then I’d have to get another payment for a car to drive. I think I w ill just keep the Prius.

Yeah, no, they are rusty now. Minnesota ...

Take the money and run, man.
Unless you really like it, then drive it until the wheels fall off, which might be a couple turns from now.
![]() 08/03/2020 at 15:31 |

most lease returns are turned in at the dealer but they don’t buy them ...it’s no t cost effective. Dealers generally buy them from auction. I’m speaking from regional experience (Mid-Atlantic).
![]() 08/03/2020 at 15:32 |

Meh option here, not bad but I’d expect better from carmax.
![]() 08/03/2020 at 15:34 |

Why aren’t people selling/replacing older cars? Is there something going on? You’d think that with the crisis there would be a glut of used and/or reposessed inventory everywhere.

I fluid film’d the snot out of two of them, and the third hid in the garage from first-snow til two rainstorms after the last snow. So at least one of them has a chance

I sold my 128i to Beepi, they paid me more than I was expecting. They went defunct several months after that.

Their initial offer for my 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport with 90k miles is $15,500. I bought it over five years ago with less than 40k miles on it for $17k. If they are actually willing to pay this price I’m selling it to them this week and will be buying another Toyota truck.

Yeah I’ve been through one winter , to me it’s a question of whether the jets underneath are washing the salt off, or the salt and the fluid film. I washed the cars about once a month last winter.
At this rate I won’t even have to prep 2 cars - next winter we may still be going out once every 2 weeks for groceries and that’s it. So groceries, car wash, home. Repeat 2 weeks later
![]() 08/03/2020 at 16:33 |

the issue now is nobody was buying or getting trades to bolster inventory for 2 months, so when buyers came they snatched up what was there. With no inventory in the supply line it takes time to catch up...obtaining cars and getting through recon takes time. When the entire whole of the used car industry is looking for product the prices soar and hot items start bringing retail money at auction.

I went through the motions, $34k for the 4Runner. I’d take that if I wasn’t going to keep it. $25k for our 32k mile 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland.

Inventory is so low right now, that wholesale prices are going up. My dad just traded his truck in on a Tahoe, and they gave him $4k more than NADA trade-in value.

I put in my truck out of curiosity. It’s a decent offer, but no thanks.

$3900 offer from Carvana for my FILs car. KBB says $6500-8800 for private sale. Not quite there.

They want $6,300 for the RallyVan! I technically did not lie on the inquiry because it hasn’t been modified, body is in great shape, no accidents or damage. Just raced through mud, sand, dirt, and gravel....
